Just over a month after Altadena was decimated by the Eaton Fire, Melodia Mariposa was able to present our first public concert of the year on schedule. It was a herculean effort from Irina, who lost her house and all her possessions, Dawn and Robert Smith, who also lost their home but still showed up to help secure our beautful venue and provide amazing video and photography of the event, and otyher members of the team. Westminster Church was the only Melodia Mariposa venue to survive the fires and we are so grateful to everyone there for their support.
We were also delighted to be offered free food after the event by World’s Central Kitchen who sent a food truck and provided a wonderful atmosphere for audience members to linger and connect.
And of course the music! The truely stunning Lyris Quartet provided music to heal the soul in their beautiful renditions of quartets by Broughton, Montgomery, Webern and Grieg. Alan Chapman provided insight and context to the music and Irina gave an emotional presentation about her love for her community and our hope to continue, be strong and recover
