Biographies of the Musicians
Bernadene Blaha, piano

Bernadene Blaha's “brilliant command of the piano”, whether featured as recitalist, concerto soloist or chamber musician, has been heralded in performances throughout North America, Europe, Australia, Asia and Mexico. Piano and Keyboard magazine has reviewed her as, “a pianist of integrity, with lovely sonorities and total clarity of line.” Highlights of this season include return engagements at the Piatigorsky Cello Festival, Newport Music Festival, Los Angeles Philharmonic Chamber Music Series, Worcester Chamber Music Society as well as performances in Canada, France and Italy.

Originally from Canada, Ms. Blaha first came to international attention as a prizewinner in the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition; the Young Keyboard Artists International Piano Competition, Grand Rapids, Michigan; the Masterplayers International Competition, Lugano, Switzerland; and the 11th Annual International Piano Competition, New York City. This latter award resulted in two highly acclaimed recital appearances, at Carnegie Recital Hall and the Lincoln Center Library. Soon afterward, Ms. Blaha was featured in the opening orchestra concert and a solo recital at the XXIX International Chopin Festival in Marianske Lazne, Czechoslovakia, followed by performances at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and Disney Hall in Los Angeles.

Ms. Blaha is a founding member of the piano trio Latitude 41, formed in 2009 with violinist Livia Sohn and cellist Luigi Piovano. Their debut CD of Schubert's monumental "Trio in E flat Major" and "Notturno" was released in 2011 on the Eloquentia label to rave reviews. The group followed this success with a recording of the Saint-Saëns Trios and has a forthcoming CD featuring the Brahms Trios. Ms. Blaha’s discography also includes recordings for the CBC, Centaur and Analekta labels.

Also in demand as a teacher, adjudicator and clinician, Ms. Blaha has received the National Arts Foundation’s Outstanding Teacher Recognition Award. She has been invited to serve on the jury of the Gina Bachauer International Artist Piano Competition, Virginia Waring International Competition and the 2015 International E-Competition.

Currently residing in Los Angeles, Ms. Blaha has been a member of the Keyboard Faculty at the Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California since 1993 where she is a Professor.

Tereza Stanislav, Violin

Dividing her time among chamber music, solos, orchestral and recording projects, Tereza Stanislav has been hailed for her “expressive beauty and wonderful intensity of her playing” (Robert Mann), her “sure technique and musical intelligence” (Calgary Herald), and “her sweet tone, brilliant phrasing, uncannily pointed rhythm and pure intonation even at the violin’s highest and lowest extremities” (Huffington Post).

Tereza was the featured soloist with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra in the world premiere of the Violin Concerto by Benjamin Wallfisch about which the Los Angeles Times wrote, “she gave a magisterial rendition” and “held the audience rapt.”

An active and highly sought after chamber musician, she has appeared in venues including the Library of Congress, the Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall and at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. She has performed in concert with artists including Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Jon Kimura Parker. In 2004, Tereza released a CD in collaboration with pianist Hung-Kuan Chen. As a member of the Calder Quartet, Tereza performed twice at the String Quartet Bienniale in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 2019 and 2024.

Tereza performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with violist Yura Lee and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra in 2024.

Tereza is active in the movie soundtrack recording industry in Hollywood, and has served as Concertmaster for many composers, including Ludwig Goransson, Harry Gregson-Williams, David Fleming, Marco Beltrami, Lorne Balfe, Benjamin Wallfisch and Mark Isham.

She served as Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Opera’s 2010 production of The Marriage of Figaro, conducted by Maestro Plácido Domingo.

In 2009, Tereza was invited to be the Chamber Music Collaborator for Sonata Programs and member of the jury for the Sixth Esther Honens International Piano Competition.

An advocate for new music, Tereza has worked with composers including Thomas Ades, Steve Reich, Gunther Schuller, Joan Tower, Toshio Hosokawa and Louis Andriessen. World premieres include Gunther Schuller’s Horn Quintet (2009) with Julie Landsman, Louis Andriessen’s The City of Dis (2007), Gernot Wolfgang’s Rolling Hills and Jagged Ridges (2009), and as Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, James Matheson’s Violin Sonata (2007); West Coast premieres include Steve Reich’s Daniel Variations and Gernot Wolfgang’s Jazz and Cocktails. She is featured on recordings of Wolfgang’s Rolling Hills and Jagged Ridges on Albany Records, Reich’s Daniel Variations on Nonesuch, a self-released solo cd with Hung-Kuan Chen and the complete Pleyel string quartets with the Enso Quartet on Nonesuch.

Tereza is the Assistant Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and a violinist in the Calder and New Hollywood Quartets.

 

Anna Drubich


Anna Drubich is a Los Angeles based composer, originally from Russia, whose diverse body of work can be heard on television, at the cinema and in the theatre , and includes big international projects, animated features, documentaries and plays.  Anna's work as composer has led her to being several times winner of Russian Film Academy Award as well as receiving International composition prizes and awards.

Drubich’s credits include scores and music contributions for feature films and documentaries such as Oscar Winning Documentary “Navalny”,  Box office hit “Barbarian”( directed by Zach Cregger), Netflix Trilogy  "Fear Street” , "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” ( produced by Guillermo del Toro),  German Netflix Thriller “Brick” and  "The Master and Margarita", among many international projects. Her most recent upcoming projects are “Forbidden Fruits” - premiering at SXSW Festival this March in Austin and “Eurotrash” ( directed by Frauke Finsterwalter)

In addition to Anna music for the visual arts, Anna has been intensively involved in writing music for the concert hall and collaborating with world famous musicians and ensembles. Her work is constantly performed worldwide on stage.

 

Giovanna Moraga- Clayton, Cello

Giovanna holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from UCLA in music performance and was a featured artist with her quartet in the prestigious Royce Hall music series. Since graduating, Giovanna has had the opportunity to work with world-renowned artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Pinchas Zukerman, Pierre Boulez, Daniel Barenboim, János Starker and Sir Neville Marriner, among others. Upon her return from an eight-month fellowship with the Chicago Symphony, Giovanna won positions with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (2004), Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the New West and Santa Barbara symphonies.

Giovanna is a familiar face in the Hollywood music scene, performing live and recording with artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, James Brown, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder and more. Keeping a busy recording schedule, Giovanna has played on dozens of jingles, movie trailers and blockbusters, such as X-Men (2000),  Spider-man (2002), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), Rocky Balboa (2006), Horton Hears a Who! (2008), The Tale of Despereaux (2008), Mall Cop (2009) and many more. Her television credits include American Idol; Felicity; The Tonight Show; the AMA, Billboard, Grammy, Soul Train, Lady of Soul and Academy awards; a GMC truck commercial and a voice over for Lifetime’s Television for Women. A versatile artist, Giovanna has scored a short film, is finishing up her first instrumental album and is in production on her debut artist project.

Giovanna lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.

Ana Landauer, Violin

Currently, principal 2nd violin of the Los Ageless Opera Orchestra, Ana Landauer has been with the company since 2001. At age six, she began her violin studies at the Tchaikovsky Academy of Music and was a winner of several national violin competitions in her native Armenia. Ana made her debut with the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia at 14 and has performed since then in major halls throughout Armenia. In the United States, she attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, completing her Artist Diploma program and later studied with renowned violin professor Robert Lipsett at the University of Southern California earning her Advanced Studies Diploma. Winner of the Elizabeth Harper Vaughn International Competition in Tennessee Ana has also appeared in the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Shady Side Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, and served as Concermistress and Guest Soloist for the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado. She has performed with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Mozart Camerata, and has been often heard on Classical 105.1 FM. Ana Landauer is an active chamber musician in the greater Los Angeles area.

Alma Lisa Fernandez, Violin

Alma attended the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and UCLA, where she received a Master’s Degree in Viola Performance. She performs regularly with such ensembles as the LA Opera Orchestra and LA Master Chorale. As a chamber musician, she has been described as “…a soulful violist” by the LA Times. Alma is  a member of the Eclipse Quartet, an ensemble dedicated to performing contemporary music, which has released recordings under Bridge Records, New World, and Microfest.

She has been featured as a soloist with the Pepperdine University Orchestra, the Jacaranda Chamber Music series, People Inside Electronics, and Electronics Live! at UC Riverside, where she premiered new works for Viola & Electronics. Alma is also active in the Los Angeles recording industry, having played for numerous motion picture soundtracks, television shows, and record albums.

This concert is being performed in a new venue – the AGBU Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Cultural Center on Mountain Street in Pasadena.
