Jennifer Cullinan, Oboe/English Horn
Jennifer Cullinan is 2nd Oboe/English Horn with the LA Opera, and 2nd Oboe with the Santa Barbara Symphony. She has played with many orchestras including the LA Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, LA Chamber Orchestra, Master Chorale, Pasadena Symphony, and Colorado Symphony Orchestra. She has degrees from the University of Colorado, the University of Southern California, and The Colburn School, and was a multiple fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival and School. Her chamber performances include Camerata Pacifica, Chamber Music Palisades, LACMA Sundays Live, the South Bay Chamber Music Society, Centrum Chamber Music Series in Port Townsend, WA, and Montage Music Society in Santa Fe, NM. She is on faculty at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music.
Allen Fogle, French Horn
Equally at home on stage and in the recording studio, hornist Allen Fogle is an active freelance musician and educator in the Los Angeles area. He currently serves as Associate Principal Horn of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra has performed as Guest Principal with many ensembles in Southern California, including the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and San Diego Symphony. He has also performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, Pacific Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
As an active studio recording musician since 2008, he has performed for hundreds of films, television shows, and albums, including projects for John Williams, James Horner, Danny Elfman, Thomas Newman, Jeff Russo, Nami Melumad, John Debney, Lady Gaga, Neil Young, Elton John, and many others.
An advocate for new music, Allen is founding member of the Los Angeles-based contemporary music ensemble Wild Up, which regularly commissions and performs new works by living composers.
As well as maintaining a studio of private students, he served as Adjunct Faculty at the California Institute of the Arts and has presented masterclasses at the Eastman School of Music, University of Southern California, University of California Los Angeles, and University of California Santa Barbara. He also served on the teaching staff of Kendall Betts Horn Camp, served as brass coach for Harvard-Westlake Middle School, and frequently teaches as a guest artist at Harmony Project Los Angeles and Youth Orchestra Los Angeles.
Sarah Weisz, Flute
A native of Southern California, Sarah Weisz has been a long standing member of the LA Opera Orchestra, the Pasadena Symphony and the Los Angeles Master Chorale Sinfonia. During the summer she enjoys playing outdoor concerts with the Pasadena Pops. Sarah previously worked for many years in the recording industry with such notable composers as John Williams, Alan Menken and James Horner.
Donald Travis Foster, Clarinet
Donald Travis Foster is one of Southern California’s most active musicians. He is Principal Clarinet of the Santa Barbara Symphony and Pasadena Symphony and Second Clarinet of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra. A frequent studio musician, Don has been featured on numerous soundtracks for motion pictures and television.
Don graduated from the University of Southern California, receiving his Master of Music degree in 1996 while in the studios of Yehuda Gilad and Michele Zukovsky. He has received Fellowships from both the Tanglewood and Aspen Music Festivals, the latter of which he attended for four consecutive summers.
Prior engagements include serving as Principal Clarinet with the Philharmonie der Nationen based in Hamburg, Germany. While with the Philharmonie he performed in over 250 concerts in virtually every major city in Europe. Foster has served as Principal Clarinet of the Colorado Music Festival, in Boulder, Colorado, has appeared in Central America with his reed trio Trianche, and has performed concertos and been featured with such organizations as the Los Angeles Mozart Festival, Marrowstone Music Festival, Westwood Chamber Orchestra, Jacaranda Chamber Music series, Aspen Music Festival, Pasadena Symphony, and the Santa Barbara Symphony performing the West Coast premiere of the Clarinet Concerto of Jonathan Leshnoff as part of a co-commission between the Santa Barbara Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Don serves as Professor of Music at Riverside City College and divides his time between residences in Downtown Los Angeles and Red Wing, Minnesota, where he owns and runs the acclaimed Home Plate Grill and Dugout Loungerestaurant.
William May, Bassoon
William May has been a member of the LA Opera Orchestra since 2008. He was appointed principal bassoon in 2011, a position he has held with New West Symphony and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz. He has enjoyed playing with several orchestras across Southern California, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, San Diego Symphony and Santa Barbara Symphony among others. Summer festivals have taken him to Siena, Italy, and to Japan for the Pacific Music Festival. He studied with Arthur Weisberg at Indiana University and furthered his training with Richard Beene at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. In his free time he enjoys traveling, hiking and teaching yoga.
William Wood, Bassoon
William Wood is a member of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, New West Symphony, Riverside Philharmonic, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale Sinfonia Orchestra. He has been a working musician in the Southern California region since 1984. Mr. Wood is an avid chamber music performer and is the Artistic Director and Founder of Noon Concerts @ TrinitySB, bi-monthly thirty-minute concerts at Trinity Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara, which began in December 2017. A native Minnesotan, he is a graduate of St. Olaf College (B.A., 1984 – Music; private studies with Benjamin Kamins and Charles Ullery) and the University of Southern California (M.M., 1987 – Bassoon Performance; private studies with Michael O’Donovan and weekly master classes with Norman Herzberg). Mr. Wood appears on the track “Come In From The Rain” on Melissa Manchester’s 2024 album RE:VIEW, a collection of new recordings with updated arrangements of her classic songs. Melissa’s father, David Manchester (bassoonist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra from the early 1950’s to the mid-1970’s) had performed on the original track. Ms. Manchester used a new extended bassoon line for the updated version of “Rain”. Mr. Wood lives in Santa Barbara, California with his husband Mark and their two dogs, Chuy and Bella. He is an enthusiastic tennis player and fan, home cook, coffee roaster, art lover, and aspiring lounge singer.
Steve Becknell, French Horn
Steve Becknell has had an extensive and varied career as a horn player. He has played in orchestras throughout Southern California including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Diego Symphony, the Pacific Symphony, and was a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra for 8 years. He is also in demand as a chamber musician, and has performed with Santa Barbara-based Camerata Pacifica as well as the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and the Mainly Mozart Festival. But the bulk of Steven’s time was spent recording in the Hollywood studios. He has played on over 1,000 different motion pictures and numerous television series, as well as playing on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Steve has played live for the Academy Awards, sat in the pit for Broadway shows, and has had the honor of recording with such legendary artists as Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow and Josh Groban. Steve has been playing principal horn with the Los Angeles Opera for over 25 years. To date, he has played over 1,500 performances with the Los Angeles Opera.
Laura Stoutenborough, Clarinet
Laura Stoutenborough is an orchestral clarinetist and teacher in the Los Angeles area. Laura has performed in over 40 operas and ballets with the Los Angeles Opera. She has performed with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Pasadena Symphony, and the Long Beach Opera. In television and film, her credits include Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever, Only Murders in the Building, The Gilded Age, Ahsoka, and Willow. In 2010, she won the Principal Clarinet position of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, where she made her solo debut performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, and performed for three seasons. A passionate teacher, Laura is the adjunct clarinet professor at Mt. San Antonio College, and she teaches clarinet at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. Laura received her Doctoral and Master of Music degrees from the University of Southern California, studying with Yehuda Gilad, and received her Bachelor of Music degree as a student of Burt Hara at the University of Minnesota.
Leslie Reed, Oboe
Leslie Reed joined the LA Opera Orchestra in 1996. In 2009, Music Director James Conlon appointed her to the principal oboe chair, a position she currently holds. In addition, Ms. Reed is currently principal oboe of the Los Angeles Master Chorale Sinfonia. Her past positions include principal oboe of the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra,
Glendale Symphony, Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra and the Long Beach Symphony.
She has appeared as guest principal oboe with the LA Chamber Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony, San Diego Symphony and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. She was invited to serve as acting associate principal oboe of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the 1994-95 season under music director Esa-Pekka Salonen, including tours of Asia, Europe and the Eastern United States.
She was associate principal oboe of the Carmel Bach Festival for ten years, has performed extensively as solo oboe with Camerata Pacifica and has appeared with Jacaranda, La Jolla Summerfest and the Ojai Festival. Ms. Reed has appeared as soloist many times with local ensembles performing the concertos of Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, Vaughan-Williams, Richard Strauss and David Newman. Her career has also extended to the Hollywood Studios participating in the scores for hundreds of films.
Ms. Reed was a first prize winner in the 1985 Coleman Competition and a semi-finalist in the 1988 Bert Lucarelli International Competition for Solo Oboists. She is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music. Her principal teachers include Wayne Rapier, John Mack and Allan Vogel
Heather Clark, Flute
Heather Clark has established herself as one of Los Angeles' most sought after flute players.
Her orchestral resume includes present and past positions as principal flute with the LA Opera Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Pacific Symphony, and the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra. During her career in Los Angeles, she has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and numerous other Los Angeles regional orchestras.
She is also a regular in Hollywood's recording studios and can be heard on hundreds of major motion picture soundtracks including Rio, Life of Pi, and Frozen. Her resume includes working with the finest film composers including John Williams, Danny Elfman and James Horner. In addition, she has worked with a variety of recording artists including Barbra Streisand, Josh Grobin, Flea, Michael Buble and Carrie Underwood.
In 1994, Ms. Clark was awarded first prize in the National Flute Association's Young Artist Competition.
In addition to her performing career, she has become a leader in teaching audition skills. She was a pioneer in creating Flute Audition Bootcamp, specializing in preparing students mentally and technically for their auditions. She teaches at California State University Northridge.
